TOUR: ARCTIC NORWAY NORTHERN LIGHTS & WHALES

PRICE: 4 Days / 3 nights only sold as a group booking

Tromsø – Tromsø

Few places are still as undiscovered as the hidden fjords of Northern Norway during wintertime. The rough, high-peaked mountains are powdered with snow and the winter light can be incredible. Even in December when the sun is not rising above the horizon, the blue pastel colours of the sky are magnificent. In addition, the mysterious landscape is often illuminated by the legendary Northern Lights during clear nights, making up for the relatively short days of “daylight”. Cruising through this spectacular wilderness scenery has a humbling impact on those travellers entering the great northern land, filled with wildlife and a fascinating human history.

We invite you onboard the comfortable small expedition ship M/S Tromsø. We will cruise the sheltered coastline, inside and along a beautiful archipelago of islands, keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife and occasionally exploring the land by snowshoes.

For the last couple of years huge numbers of Orcas and Humpback Whales have joined an annual hunt for herring in the North-Norwegian fjords during wintertime. We are sailing in the area where the herring feast is expected. But, as the traveling pattern of both the whales and herring is rather unpredictable we aim to be highly flexible with our schedule and route.
Join us onboard for one of our exciting tours in true expedition style! We will have great opportunities to discover the hidden places seldom visited and experience the wildlife living there.

ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrive Tromsø
Arriving Tromsø, located 350 km north of the Polar Circle. After the transfer from the airport to the ship M/S Tromsø (on the waterfront pier in Tromsø harbour) we have some free time in the city centre. Tromsø is known as the “Gateway to the Arctic” and located on an island it is surrounded by perpetually snow-clad, mile-high peaks.
The ship will set sail during evening towards the fjord areas. Leaving the harbour and the light pollution from the city, we might already have the chance of seeing Northern Lights this evening.

Day 2-3: Expedition cruising in hidden fjords of Northern Norway
From now on we are in full expedition mode, cruising along the spectacular fjords and snow-covered mountains. The itinerary for the following days will be highly dependent on the weather conditions and the wildlife. Our Plan A will be cruising towards the area where we will find whales. This season will maybe different because the herring will enter a little bit further south. We aim to stay at least one night at a remote pier in order to hopefully not only enjoy the Northern Lights, but also to take fair images of the phenomena.

Day 4: Disembarking day in Tromsø

During the night we sail back to Tromsø. Disembarkation after breakfast.

Arctic Sea Expedition are happy to have this exclusive traditional expedition ship in our fleet, operating during the winter 2020/21. Nice cabins with shared facilities and a highly motivated crew and expedition staff, we are now ready to deliver unique northern lights & whale adventurs in Northern Norway.
